I have no interest in receiving a box of chocolates, or a teddy bear holding a heart, or anything else that can be found in the overwhelmingly red-and-pink Valentine's gift aisle at the drugstore. No thank you. Instead, I've compiled a list of non-tacky Valentine's Day gifts that still say "you're special" and that a lot of people could appreciate. Some of these work for her, some of them for him. Even if you don't have a significant other, these gift ideas are also great if you just want to treat yourself.
My boyfriend and I don't take Valentine's Day seriously at all. We avoid the whole romantic restaurant thing because frankly it's too much pressure, too crowded, and too expensive. Not to mention we live in the land of endless winter, and going out to a restaurant and finding parking in the snow is an ordeal. Also my boyfriend has got class until 8 pm so.... I think we'll just have a nice evening in another night this week with some homemade pizza and wine. Even if you don't take V-day seriously at all like us, it's nice to get a little treat. My boyfriend and I recently finished his bottle of Crown Royal, so I think I'll be getting him a new one, along with a couple of bath bombs just for a fun little treat.
You can gift your significant other a nice bottle of vodka or whiskey. I personally love Zubrowka, a Polish whiskey which has a quite warm taste and is easy to make delicious cocktails with. One of my favourite cocktails is called Szarlotka, or a Polish apple pie cocktail. It's as simple as mixing Zubrowka with apple juice, and a sprinkle of cinnamon. Boom, delicious.
If you want to buy something for your man, I think that you could never go wrong with whiskey, and maybe some nice tumblers to go with it. My boyfriend and I quite enjoy Crown Royal Northern Harvest Rye. It's an award-winning Canadian whiskey that tastes delicious on the rocks or mixed with some ginger soda.
I love some girly, delicate lingerie and sleepwear. I think that wearing lingerie is a great way to feel sexy and confident and pretty, even when it's underneath other clothing. You don't have to look hard for lingerie as it's everywhere now. I love how recent trends are incorporating lingerie into outfits, showing a bit of delicate lace or interesting straps. The best sort of lingerie to gift is a matching set because how often does one actually wear a matching bra and undies? There is so much satisfaction when you wear a matching set, and it really makes you feel like you've got your life together.
They have Valentine's day sorted over at Lush, with so many cute bath bombs and massage bars. My boyfriend is really not the type to like any "pampering" products, and I've tried on many occasions to get him to try some face masks or cleansers or creams. Alas, to no avail. Is anyone else's partner like this? I recently saw Lily Pebbles' GRWM video with her hubby and he actually does a skincare routine and I was like, WHAT! Anyway, I digress. My boyfriend actually likes bath bombs and the Lush massage bars. It's a cute, fun, and sexy gift that you can enjoy together.
Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse
I'm throwing this in here as I wanted to include a scent. I'm quite picky with perfumes and scents, but the Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse is really a dry body oil that smells absolutely divine. I'm not sure how to describe the notes of the scent, but it definitely smells very warm, a bit tropical, and maybe a little bit like tea? If the smell was a colour, it would be gold. I don't know if I'm making sense. But it is a subtle, happy, and gorgeous scent. It makes your skin feel so soft, and gives it such a healthy glow.
I have never before had a Diptyque candle, but I saw this Rosamundi one on Kate La Vie's blog and it's just such a pretty candle. The candle was created for Valentine's Day and smells like, duh, roses. Candles are always a good gift option, and there are so many good ones at different price points. A lot of them also have gorgeous packaging that you can later use to hold your brushes or just use as decoration.
