At the beginning of the year, I posted a Practical Wishlist. Ever since then, I've managed to get my hands on a couple of the items in there and decided to blog about them, and other items I got that I'm loving!Read More
Last month, my skin reacted badly to a product, for the first time. Angry, itchy, red patches covered my cheeks.Read More
Ever since I started dyeing my hair last December, I've been a lot more interested in hair products.Read More
When it comes to packing, I'm very good at keeping things streamlined. Clothing and makeup for two weeks? I'll make it work with only carry-on luggage. And that's exactly what I did for my holiday this summer where I visited my friend in London for a week, and then went to Bourgogne the next week for my cousin's wedding...
The makeup I packed is super basic. But I pack things that I know I will use, and that can be appropriate for different occasions.
Etude House Face Blur Primer | I got this in my YesStyle haul a few months ago [haul post here] and honestly, I'm telling you guys, Koreans fucking know what's up when it comes to base products. This is a moisturizing primer that makes your skin look evened-out and smooth on its own, has SPF 35 PA++, AND the price is right at only $17 CAD. This works so well under my BareMinerals Original Foundation.
BareMinerals Original Foundation | This is one of my most-loved foundations. I think I only have a quarter of the product left. This is a powder foundation that looks and feels light and natural, but the coverage is buildable. I will always have this foundation in my collection!
IT Cosmetics CC Veil Cushion | IT Cosmetics has quickly become one of my favourite makeup brands. This cushion foundation is just so easy to apply in a hurry, giving a light coverage and SPF 50 protection. It's one of those products that are so easy to slap on quickly in the mornings, or to carry around for touch-ups.
IT Cosmetics CC Undereye Corrector | Review | Will conceal any darkness under your eyes. I use this nearly every day. The colour is straight up orange, so you need to go over it with something else (I used Clinique Airbrush Concealer) but this is amazing and you can read more about it on my review post on it here.
MUFE HD Concealer | Total rookie mistake - I only tried this twice before deciding to bring it on holiday. I thought I liked it, and it works well on the face, but it doesn't seem to do much under the eyes. The concealer is marketed as being able to cover up dark circles, but imho it did not, and it made my under eyes look kind of dry. Also, it did not sit well over the IT Cosmetics corrector.
Clinique Airbrush Concealer | I picked this up in duty free on holiday, and I'm so glad I did since the MUFE concealer just wasn't working for me under my eyes. This, put over the IT Cosmetics Undereye Corrector is a perfect match.
Younique Splurge Cream Shadow in "Victorious" | What I've been reaching for lately as an eyeshadow base / primer. It is a creamy, matte nude that evens out the eyelid and lasts all day!
Inglot Eyeshadows | The most underrated eye shadows that last for ever. I think I got this palette 2 years ago. Don't let the photo fool you - for some reason, the camera doesn't pick up the sizeable dents I've made in the medium brown and beige shadows. I picked each pan out for the palette (called the Freedom System) and each pan has 3 shades (called Rainbow Eyeshadows). Also, every single shade is matte. I generally stick to the shades on the right, but if I'm leaning toward a warmer eyeshadow look, I'll dip into the orangey tones to the left.
Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara (Waterproof) | I love this mascara as it always makes my eyelashes really stand out. This waterproof version is very good at holding a curl all day, which is my number one concern when it comes to mascaras.
Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in "Partaaay" | I don't like the name of this blush (so stupid right) but the colour is beautiful. It was the blush that came in the Tarte birthday gift at Sephora. The blush is a warm neutral colour that really makes me look blushed and sort of bronzy. I've been reaching for this a lot lately, so I am really enjoying it this summer!
NARS liquid highlighter | I bought a tinted moisturizer at the NARS counter and they gave me a sample of a liquid highlighter. I actually don't know which one but it's quite dewy and subtle.
Benefit Double The Lip | This is a trial size I received in my TopBox a couple of months ago. The concept of having two colours in the bullet is interesting, but it simply doesn't translate in real life. I just used it like a normal lipstick, blending out the two colours, and it made for a very pretty rosy shade.
Laritzy Undressed Liquid Lip Stain | This is a new product I got in my TopBox this summer and I was impressed with it. It is very pigmented, but the formula can be applied thinly to the lips to create a nice blotted stained lip look (my preferred look), or it can be applied full-on for a typical liquid lip look.
Marcelle Lip Liner "Jewel" | Soft, smooth and long-wearing. This lip liner matches with both other lip colours I brought on holiday. It is definitely one of the best lip liner formulas I've ever tried.
Finally, the last thing I brought (not photographed) was the Urban Decay All-Nighter setting spray!
All the makeup I brought worked well to have nice varied daytime looks, and also had the option of adding a bit more drama if I needed it for night time. As I mentioned, I also went to my cousin's wedding and I was able to make an appropriate look! Which shows that you really don't need to pack so many items, because if there's something that bothers me is packing something that I never use!
How do you usually pack beauty products for travel? Are you streamlined or do you tend to pack more?
This year, I've gotten my hands on both of the Sephora birthday gifts! My aunt got the Tarte gift, but gave it to me since she said she probably won't use it... and for my birthday, I got the Caudalie gift. For those of you who have yet to collect their gifts, here is a review of both to help you make up your mind.
This set comes with the Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in the shade "Paaarty". The name is kind of dumb, but the shade is really beautiful and I've been reaching for it a lot. In fact, it's the only blush I brought on holiday with me. It's a gorgeous, warm neutral shade that is perfect for summer. I think it would work well for Light to Tan complexions. Cheeks look blushed and sort of bronzed, and the colour is neutral but bold. Love.
The other item in this set is the Tarte Creamy Matte Lip Paint in "Birthday Suit". The colour is a creamy nude, and the formula is a smooth whipped texture. It feels so light on the lips, and not that drying. I don't tend to wear liquid lipsticks, so I don't reach for this very often, but I think that this is a nice formula.
The set comes with the Vinoperfect Radiance Serum and the Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet. I brought this serum while on holiday, and with 2 weeks of use, I found it to be quite nice. I didn't notice any huge changes since my skin doesn't have any problems in particular. But my skin did seem a bit more even and overall well-behaved. I think that after trying this travel size, I would be interested in buying the full size as I really enjoyed the fresh smell and milky consistency of this. It's also worth noting that this is a nice generous size for a serum! It lasted me nearly a month.
The Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet is a very lightweight moisturizer, better suited for the summer months. I liked it, but it's not something I would reach for over my other moisturizers, nor would I wear makeup over it. It's quite light, and sinks into the skin rapidly. If you like lightweight moisturizers then you would like this, but personally, I prefer something balmier.
Have you already picked up your Sephora birthday gift? Which one did you get?
