Reviewing the moisturizer that claims to do it all.
I picked up the Marcelle Lumi Power at the Marcelle warehouse sale last November because I was intrigued with all of the claims written on the packaging. Marcelle is a Canadian drugstore brand, so sorry to those of you who cannot get your hands on this. I figured I would do a review anyway in case someone was searching for a thorough review of this product because after a Google search, there doesn't seem to be much information on this.
Now, let's talk about the claims, because there are a lot. First and foremost, the Marcelle LumiPower claims to be a moisturizer. It can be used as a day cream, a night cream, and also as an eye cream (which is what interested me the most). It also claims to be anti-aging and anti-fatigue. The formula is oil-free, paraben-free, perfume-free, hypoallergenic and tested under dermatological and opthalmological control. It retails for $25 CAD.
The texture is very light, sort of in between a gel and a lotion. It has no scent. When I put it all over my face, straight after toner, it feels really nice and refreshing. Especially around the eyes! It almost has a cooling effect, and a little bit of firming action thanks to the caffeine listed in the ingredients. It dries down fairly quickly, and my skin looks and feels smooth, moisturized, and fresh. As for the anti-aging claims, I really can't tell because I'm still in my early 20s.
The downfall with this product is that unfortunately, it's very finicky with the products it's used with. For example, I wouldn't use this if you have a lot of steps to your skincare. This is very much a one-step, slap-on-and-go type of product, and works best applied straight after toner. Another thing to note is that it doesn't like any buffing action. If you apply foundation on with a sponge, you should be fine, but if you buff in foundation with a brush then it will either sit really weird on top of the LumiPower or pill up.
So what is this product good for? And when do I use it? I like to use it for easy, no makeup days. I like to use it when I go to the gym. And I like to use it as an eye cream, both in the morning and at night. Using it as an eye cream in the morning feels so nice and cool around the eyes, and it works fine with a bit of concealer over (applied with a sponge, of course). While the LumiPower claims to be a night cream, I would stick to just using this in the day time as I like layering up skincare at night.
I would recommend the Marcelle LumiPower to those who are low maintenance with their skincare and want a multi-tasking product, or perhaps for those with a very busy lifestyle and want a multi-tasking skincare product that will save time in the morning. Since this is also technically an eye cream, this could also be good for someone who wants a 50ml cooling eye cream for a decent price.
