Since becoming a regular gym-goer, yoga sort of fell off my radar. I don't take any classes at the gym, like pilates or yoga, I just show up and do my own little routine of cardio followed by strength. And so for a year, my poor yoga mat has been rolled up and gathering dust in a lonely corner of my room.
It wasn't until around Christmas that I reintroduced myself to yoga. My gym closed for two whole weeks for the holidays, which, if you're a regular gym-goer, is like the end of the world. I needed to do something, especially considering how much I was eating and lazing around during the holidays. Note that I live somewhere with a lot of snow and ice, so running outside wasn't an option. So, I rolled out my mat in my room, and started off with some easy yoga videos. I opted for the 10 Min Sun Salutation Practice, followed by Feel Good Flow. Both these videos are great for yoga beginners, or if you're trying to ease back into yoga like myself.
My gym has since reopened, and I've resumed my normal fitness routine there. But I've also done a few yoga videos on the days that I don't go to the gym: Yoga for your Butt and Thighs, Easy Breezy Beautiful Yoga, and Yoga Camp Day 6: I am Supported (Six Pack Abs)
This year, I really want to continue going to the gym regularly, but also integrate yoga into my routine. I think it's a lovely balance to the more intense workout at the gym. By the way, I need to mention that I totally love Yoga With Adriene. I found her years ago and she makes simply the best yoga videos on youtube. Just looking through all her videos (there are a lot) makes me so excited about getting back into yoga this year.
If you are thinking about starting to do yoga, then do it. It really all comes down to taking that time for yourself, even if it's only for ten minutes!
